MTH's 2-8-8-8-2 Triplex Photo GalleryIn 2001 MTH announced a fabulous new model - the Erie Triplex. The were a quick sell out and we were very smart Muffins - we preordered one. They were first shipped in late January 2002. As they sold out quickly, MTH got a lot of complaints about having such a small run, so they announced the release of the Virginian Triplex in the catalog released in Fall, 2002. That didn't satisfy the folks that missed out on the original Erie Triplex, so MTH announced a second number in the Erie Triplex, available only through its authorized service centers. They shipped in early 2003 and Mrs. Muffin bough me both the 2nd Erie and the Virginian Triplexes as my wedding present. I think I got her a new dishwasher - so I'm calling it even. The Triplexes look great and have phenomenal detail. With basically drivers under the tender - its really three engines in one - and has two smoking stacks - both front and rear. Currently, they are still tough to find for anything close to retail - the original Erie Triplex has been offered up at a premium of as much as $500 over list. If you've got one, or more, I'm sure its one of your favorites. We're experimenting with adding video images to our website. Once we get that figured out - we will be showing a video of double headed Erie Triplexes pulling a long string of hoppers. In MTH's latest catalog, they have announced a semi-scaled version of the Erie Triplex in their Rail King line - this engine should also be a big seller, and will allow lots of fellow modelers with smaller radius curves to own one of these fabulous engines.
