Lionel 4-8-2 Mohawk Photo GalleryThe 4-8-2 steam engine configuration was commonly know as the "mountain" and the Pennsylvania Railroad had plenty of them pulling coal and other loads over the mountains from the east coast to Pittsburgh. The New York Central followed a water level route all the way to Chicago, so they didn't want to call their 4-8-2's Mountains - they chose to call them Mohawks after the Mohawk valley - sure beats calling them Molehills. Lionel began in 2002 offering a handful of uncataloged engines as special releases - I believe there were 6 in 2002, including the PRR Mountain. These have been very popular with hobbyists in that they are announced and then ship quickly so you're not waiting months or years for the newest release - plus everybody loves the occasional surprise. Lionel has continued this into 2003, and the Lionel NYC Mohawk was the first of this years special introductions - we were very pleased to add one to our collection. Please take a look:
