Lionel 2-8-4 Berkshire Photo Gallery

In early 2003, Lionel released their new scale Berkshire in three roads - the Erie; the Nickel Plate Road; and the Pere Marquette. These were an instant hit with the O Gauge community and the Pere Marquette version, which were thought to be the least desired, sold out very quickly. We Muffins couldn't decide between the Erie and the Nickel Plate. The Erie is our favorite road, but we love those Nickel Plate Road cabooses, and of course, the Nickel Plate ran here in Indianapolis.

Greg at Chicagoland Hobby told us not to worry, he'd order both and we could decide when they came in. We got the call and headed to Chicago - the Berkshires were in! Erie or NKP; Erie of NKP; Erie or NKP - all the way up there. Mr Muffin made the call - we took the Nickel Plate and paid our bill. They had the boxed Erie right behind the counter and being the ever ready sales guys, told the Mr that this was the last Erie in Chicago - and wanted to be sure that we didn't want it because they had others waiting for it. "Nope" says Mr. Muffin and away we head. Once in the car, the Mrs says that we have been very good Muffins and if the Mr. really really wants the Erie, he can have it. Mr. Muffin dances back into the shop to get it, and finds that theirs a note already on the Erie's box: "Hold for the Muffins" it says. Evidently, the Mrs. asked that it be held for a week or so on the way out. She is so very nice.

Later, after asking the folks at Lionel at York and being told that the Berkshires were all sold out - but if she wanted an Erie or NKP they'd try to find her one - the Mrs. scours around the country and with some help from the OGR Forum Cronies finds one for Mr. Muffin's father's day present down in TN. Thank you Mrs. Muffin! And for the many of you that have written, no, she doesn't have a sister.
